Watershed Workgroups

The watershed workgroups are made up of those communities that are physically located within that watershed. Since watersheds do not follow municipal lines, a community can be located within more than one watershed.  For example, there are four sub-watersheds that make up the Middle Flint River Watershed: the Swartz Creek, the Thread Creek, the Gibson Drain, and the Kearsley Creek Watersheds.  (For more information on watersheds, see What is a Watershed?)

Each municipality has assigned a staff member or resident to represent their community in the watershed workgroups.  Each watershed workshop has created a watershed management plan.  The State of Michigan permits require the management plans be reviewed and updated every two years.  During this revision period it will be necessary for the watershed workgroups to meet in regards to the revisions.  Remember, watershed plans are evolving documents that require periodic updates.
